Mesozoic Era
The Mesozoic Era was the second to shortest Era out of all the Eras it goes to 248 mya to 65 mya and is formally known as the Age of Reptiles. This Era's climate was mostly warm and dry and there was no polar ice caps. In the Cretaceous the temp started to cool down and at the end of the period it rose to the old climate it use to be. This Era had a pretty mixed up climate but I find it interesting.
The continents in this magnificent Era were very much like the continents we know today. In the beginning of the Era there was the most known megacontinent that was named Pangaea. At the end of the Era this megacontinent split into the continent we know and love today. In the middle of the period India collided with Eurasia and it formed the tallest mountain range today the Himalayas. These continents aren't anything special they are mostly the ones we know today. The main and dominant animal in this period was the dinosaur but if you want to be exact it is the T-rex and the Triceratops. In the beginning the dinosaurs started out small and then they grew rapidly in the Triassic Period. There was only little mammals that were like rats or a mouse something like that. These really cool animals eventually evolved into the animals we know today The main and dominant plant in this Era is the carboniferous plant which is coned bearing seed plant with vascular tissue. Also in this period the first flowering plant evolved into the plants we have today. Again the plants in this period are not so special it was just like the plants we know today. At the end of the period there was a Mass Extinction that wiped 60%- 80% of the animals and 35% of the land plants. The Mass Extinction also caused sea levels to change and either a meteor hit the planet or a volcano erupted and killed almost all of the animals. This Mass Extinction is the one you probably heard of when you were younger. |
