Precambrian Time
Precambrian Time is the oldest of all Eras well with this time period it doesn’t say Era but every other one it does so follow along with me. It is also the longest of all “Eras” it lasted from the beginning of Earth which is 4.6 Bya to 543 Mya. The climate in this “Era” was on and off with glaciers at the equator and hot at the ice caps and cold at the ice caps and hot at the equator and it stayed like that for a long time. This climate way is called the (greenhouse climate) it means that it is hot and moist enough to grow plants. Now you know how hot and cold it was in the Precambrian time. The continents looked a lot different from the modern continents we know today. The continents were still centered at the equator. China was way up north and Africa was where Antarctica is today. The continents were not split up back then they were all a mega continent named Rodinia it was the first mega continent in the world. The way this massive beast of a continent was formed was that iron seeped into the middle of the world and formed the core and the mega continent with it. Our beautiful world took many steps to where it is now and this was one of the first.
The animal life in this “Era” was not advanced at all it was mostly soft bodied organisms that lived at the bottom of the ocean. At the end of the period only some of the animals moved to land. Also at the end of the period the not advanced bacteria evolved into the multicelled organisms that are more advanced than the bacteria that lived back then. when the animal life in the Precambrian Time was not at all the animals we know today. The plant life in this “Era” was again not advanced at all it was only at the bottom of the ocean called algae it is still alive today and sometimes you can see it at the top of dirty ponds anywhere. Like the animals they reached land but they were the first and that the animals relied on the plants to make it to the land because the animals needed oxygen to live and plants provide it. The plants also started photosynthesis which gave the animals the oxygen. These plants and animals will eventually turn into the plants and animals we know today but it might take a while. At the end of this period there was a really big extinction named the Vendian Extinction. This colossal extinction killed many animals yet some still survived and survived into the Paleozoic Era. What happened in this mass extinction is that the oxygen levels lowered and the sea levels rose and declined and caused many animals to die. This extinction was a shame but it was for the best because it soon evolved into really advanced animals we could study.
